Heroes for Families is a non-profit organization founded to financially help families with children battling cancer. We founded Heroes for Families in memory of our daughter, Carissa Hansen. Carissa died May 21, 2006, following a five-year battle with a brain tumor. Following our daughter’s death, we founded Heroes for Families as a nonprofit organization to financially help families who have children fighting cancer and other serious illnesses.
During Carissa’s illness, the community rallied around her and our family. Fund-raisers were organized to help offset costs of the many medical procedures and treatments that were done to help Carissa get better. People were so kind and generous, so willing to help. It was a great strength to our family in this very difficult time.
To help our family heal and to help other families in similar circumstances, Heroes for Families was organized in 2009. It is our intent to provide financial assistance to families with children who are battling cancer or other serious illnesses.
Each year we search for a family that is in need of help and then host a Super Hero 5K Run / 2 mile Walk event in their behalf. This is a fun activity that families and individuals can come out and participate in and at the same time help support members of our community. Good food, fun, prizes, music, and special moments can be found. We encourage participants to come dressed as their favorite super hero or character and have a good time.

Heroes For Families
A 501(c)3 non-profit organization, "Heroes For Families" was founded on the behalf of Carissa Hansen with the goal to financially help families with children battling cancer.
The Hansen family was immensely grateful for the support they received during their own daughter's battle against this life-threatening illness.
Heroes for Families works year round to reach back out to the community, particularly to the families who are battling cancer, and give back that same support that the Hansen family received.
In memory of Carissa Hansen who died in 2006 from a brain tumor
